We rented a Spaceship Campervan in Christchurch:
The car was a Toyota Estima minivan (I think it's called a Previa here). It was well broken-in, with over 300,000 km. The "GPS" on the side of the van was its name. We did not use the Global Positioning System on our trip.
There are many campervan companies in New Zealand. Nancy chose this company because of the vehicle: 1) being a minivan it would be easier to drive than a large campervan (especially since we had to learn to drive on the left side of the road); and 2) it was available with a pod on top which could be cranked up to provide sleeping space for a third person.
"GPS" worked out just fine for us.
