Confederate Womens Memorial

The monument pictured above is on the south side of the South Carolina State House. The inscription reads:

TO THE

SOUTH CAROLINA WOMEN

OF THE CONFEDERACY

1861-65

REARED

BY THE MEN OF THEIR STATE

1909-11

Nancy thought it was odd that the men would say that they reared the women. I think "reared" refers to the monument.
